Fiber History

I love finding fiber related things when I’m not expecting it. Well today we visited the Engelstad Pioneer Village in Theif River Falls, MN. It is always nice to see the the slower pace of a good history museum.

Today they were doing thresher demonstrations. It was cool to see this older equipment still in working order.

Of course they had the one room school house. I do remember desks similar to this when I was growing up and I was happy to see I could still fit in the desk even though it was a tight squeeze. But even hitting closer to home my four oldest brothers and sisters went to a schoolhouse not too far from this one.

My background in graphic design and printing was represented in this letterpress. I didn’t quite use one of these but I have many friends who did.

But the best thing to see was the not one but two weaving looms. I didn’t get photos but they also had a third loom waiting to be assembled for another display.

Our rich fiber history is everywhere, I can’t wait to see the next place I get to visit it.
